Reclaimed Timber

Oil

Our reclaimed timber is sourced from around Australia, the particular species does vary dependant on what is available, so colour tone and markings will vary accordingly. Jardan’s Reclaimed Timber is a naturally occurring material with significant colour variations, cracks, knots and other markings making every piece unique. Please keep in mind the characteristics of reclaimed timber can vary significantly. The timber may noticeably wear and move with age, use and conditions. Please be advised that timber is a natural material with grain detail, colour and finishes subject to variation. Additionally solid timber will be more susceptible to movement in warmer climates.  All of our timber adheres to Forestry Certification Standards.

Care

Please note - It is not advisable to sit reclaimed timber directly on carpet or flooring that may stain, as the timber may leach over time. Depending on the position of the piece and the conditions of your home, we recommend re-oiling once a year. Timber is a natural product that will respond to its environmental conditions. With a little bit of care, your timber furniture will be part of your family for a long time. We recommend that you regularly wipe the timber surface with a damp cloth to remove any dust and dirt. Wipe up spills immediately, do not leave liquids to sit on timber surface, as it will penetrate and may cause staining. Please do not use cleaners or polishes, as these may cause permanent damage or colour variation to your furniture. Take care when placing or moving unglazed ceramics and other items with an irregular base finish as they may scratch the surface.

The tone of the timber will alter over time with exposure to UV light. Please protect timber from direct or reflected sunlight. We recommend you avoid extreme variation in temperature and humidity, as well as contact with liquids and heat. Please be aware that in slab or underfloor heating can be damaging to solid timber products. This type of heating can cause the underside of your timber to dry out at a different speed to the top, which in turn can cause bowing, warping or cracking. We advise that you do not keep solid timber pieces on underfloor heating.

We advise having your furniture re-oiled at least once by our professional craftspeople to learn the correct application techniques. In some cases, an additional application may be required after the first six months. Oil care packages are available from your nearest Jardan store. Do not use any other cleaners or polishes as they may permanently damage your furniture.
