Softedge
Softedge has been reiminagine the every day ritual of eating since its founding in late 2019. Characterised by a vivid, colourful and playful beauty, the ceramics studio revels in the very pleasures of dining, all without compromising the function or quality of the objects that enable it.
The pieces invite you to pause and pay careful attention. To notice the small joys of setting a table, serving a meal or simply sitting with something thoughtfully created. What began in a modest studio on Bundjalung country (near Byron Bay) has grown into a global design presence – softedge now graces dining tables across the globe. Discover and indulge in the latest designs, only at Jardan.
Process and provenance
Softedge ceramics honours the intimacy of process, forging lasting relationships with the artisans who carry each object from concept to completion. The result? A refined material language, built on mutual respect and the kind of quality that only emerges when maker and designer move as one.
Crafted in Hasami from locally sourced Amakusa porcelain, each form is a study in delicate balance – between the whimsical and the refined, the modern and the traditional. Fired to perfection at 1300°C, they honour the legacy of Arita ware with a softedge sensibility: made not to be precious, but to be part of daily life.
Indulge with softedge studios from Jardan
Softedge was founded by Layla Cluer – whose experience in architecture, fine art and curatorial work informs a studio ethos that resists definition. The name itself is a quiet provocation: an ode to the in-between, to tactility and nuance and to forms that invite rather than insist.
Pair your softedge ceramics with our considered edit of homewares at Jardan – from lighting to bed linen, rugs and cushions. Whether curating your own space or selecting a gift, bring harmony, character and vivacious life to every corner.
