Our new Scoresby headquarters marks a significant milestone in Jardan’s history, underscoring our steadfast commitment to sustainable production, craftsmanship and quality Australian design. The 16,000-square-metre facility embodies the essence of our brand, reflecting our dedication to excellence in every detail.
Our move into a larger premises in Scoresby on the outskirts of Melbourne is more than a symbol of our expansion – it heralds a new era in Australian furniture design and manufacturing. By marrying advanced manufacturing with sustainable practices and innovative design, we like to think that we’re redefining what is possible in the Australian market.
Despite how the industry has evolved over the past 25 years, our dedication to high-quality local manufacturing has never wavered, and the Scoresby facility stands as a testament to this enduring commitment. It’s where our ethos of excellence in Australian design and manufacturing is actively lived, capturing the essence of what we have strived to build and sustain for decades.
The building has the capacity to double our current production, and we couldn’t be prouder of everything it stands for. That’s why we’ve introduced an HQ and Manufacturing Tour where our clients and customers can come explore the factory and can see where the furniture is made and the sets of hands that touch every piece.
The layout of the Scoresby HQ is meticulously planned, creating an environment where precision and creativity intersect. Once home to a Tupperware factory, the sprawling new space now serves as the heart of our operations, significantly enhancing our capacity to create. The facility is organised into specialised zones, each dedicated to a different part of the furniture-making process. From the initial sketching of designs to the precise cutting of materials, and through to assembly, every phase is thoughtfully integrated.
The Scoresby site is not only a manufacturing facility but also a creative sanctuary where our in-house R&D and design team thrive. The environment not only fosters innovation but has also laid the foundation for a collaborative landscape, allowing production and design teams to work together. Such collaboration pushes the boundaries of furniture design, with the facility enabling rapid prototyping and testing. This ensures that new products meet the aesthetic and functional standards we’re renowned for, while also embodying the brand’s commitment to sustainability and quality. Adopting this holistic approach to design and development ensures that we are at the forefront of creating furniture that is both beautiful and responsible.
At the heart of Scoresby are our state-of-the-art manufacturing capabilities. The expansive facility is a hub of activity, where design ideas transition seamlessly into finished products. With the incorporation of sophisticated machinery, including our highly advanced 13-axis CNC machine and RF press, we have enhanced our production efficiencies and precision. These technological advancements streamline manufacturing, heighten craftsmanship and enhance quality control.
In the design room, a blend of traditional methods and modern technology such as 3D printing accelerates the creation process, making it more efficient to turn concepts into tangible designs. It is this area where our new collections come to life. Here, the team sketches, models and finesses designs, developing a harmonious palette of textures and colours that reflect our distinctive Australian aesthetic.
Moving through the factory, the Pathfinder cutting machine offers a clear demonstration of our focus on reducing environmental impact and improving production efficiency. This machine streamlines the pattern-making process and makes fabric use more efficient, drastically cutting down on waste. Similarly, the process of cutting leather highlights our commitment to combining innovation with traditional craftsmanship, ensuring material is used thoughtfully and effectively.
Sustainability is woven into the fabric of all our operations, a principle vividly expressed at the Scoresby headquarters. Achieving carbon neutrality in 2014 was only the beginning. Our new facility’s solar panels generated an impressive 41,575 kWh of electricity this financial year, emphasising our dedication to renewable energy sources. More than 75 per cent of materials come from Australian suppliers, we continually prioritise local sourcing to reduce our environmental footprint. This commitment extends to ethical sourcing, seeking suppliers who meet accredited certification standards for timber, down, foam and organic cotton. Additionally, our product stewardship initiative reflects a deep-seated responsibility towards the environment, ensuring that products are designed with their end-of-life in mind to promote recycling and minimise waste.
As we continue to evolve, the Scoresby headquarters will undoubtedly play a central role in shaping the future of the company and hopefully the Australian furniture industry at large. It stands as a bold declaration of our values and a place where every piece of furniture tells a story of quality, sustainability, and Australian pride.
From being carbon neutral for over a decade and now Bcorp certified, to the re-use of fabric offcuts to ensuring maximum efficiency throughout the factory, it has always been a goal of ours to have a positive influence in the world.
