Blackwood

Natural

Tasmanian Blackwood is the perfect timber for furniture and boasts a variety of colours ranging from light golden-brown to deep brown, sometimes with a reddish tint and occasionally showing black streaks. The timber radiates a subtle beauty with additional character resulting from the grain of the wood, which can be straight or wavy producing a fiddleback figure, with a natural lustre.

Care

Timber is a natural product that will respond to its environmental conditions. With a little bit of care, your timber furniture will be part of your family for a long time. We recommend that you regularly wipe the timber surface with a damp cloth to remove any dust and dirt. Wipe up spills immediately, do not leave liquids to sit on timber surface, as it will penetrate and may cause staining. Please do not use cleaners or polishes, as these may cause permanent damage or colour variation to your furniture. Take care when placing or moving unglazed ceramics and other items with an irregular base finish as they may scratch the surface.

Depending on the position of the piece and the conditions of your home, we recommend re-oiling once a year. We advise having your furniture re-oiled at least once by our professional craftspeople to learn the correct application techniques. In some cases, an additional application may be required after the first six months. Oil care packages are available from your nearest Jardan store.

The tone of the timber will alter over time with exposure to UV light. Please protect timber from direct or reflected sunlight. We recommend you avoid extreme variation in temperature and humidity, as well as contact with liquids and heat. Please be aware that in slab or underfloor heating can be damaging to solid timber products. This type of heating can cause the underside of your timber to dry out at a different speed to the top, which in turn can cause bowing, warping or cracking. We advise that you do not keep solid timber pieces on underfloor heating.
